Lithuanian black metal band Luctus will return to Riga on March 14th for a special performance at the “Black Friday” club, celebrating their 25th anniversary and presenting their fifth studio album, “Tamsošviesa.”
It’s difficult to say exactly how many times the formidable black metal group Luctus has played in Latvia, but one reviewer distinctly remembers catching their electrifying set at the “Zobens un Lemess ‘2023” festival. The performance was so compelling, the reviewer immediately purchased a copy of their then-latest studio album, “Užribis” (2020), right there at the Bauska Pils Park stage – a rare impulse.
Since then, Luctus has welcomed a new drummer and released a new studio album. “Over a quarter of a century, the band has consistently crafted a dark and philosophically rich sonic world. Their new recording, ‘Tamsošviesa,’ released by [local label] “Inferna Profundus Records,” explores the dialectic of light and darkness, the inner fractures of the human psyche, and a spiritual journey through transcendence,” concert organizers announced.
The concert will also feature three powerful local heavy music acts: blackened death metal pioneers Deodium (currently working on new material), the aggressive and mythical Eremos-IX, and the increasingly popular “evil rock’n’roll” band Uguns.
The Riga show promises a deep dive into Luctus’ signature sound, a cornerstone of the Baltic black metal scene. The performance is poised to be a significant event for fans of extreme music in the region, showcasing both the band’s legacy and their continued evolution.
