Multiple collisions on Hungary’s M7 motorway near Martonvásár on Saturday morning triggered significant traffic disruptions, with authorities reporting a multi-vehicle crash that left one lane impassable and caused a backup stretching over 8 kilometers.
The incident occurred around 10:41 a.m. Local time on the Letenye-bound side of the M7, where four passenger vehicles collided at the 31-kilometer marker. Emergency responders, including local firefighters and medical personnel, were dispatched to the scene following the crash.
According to disaster management officials speaking with MTI, the collision resulted in one lane being closed to traffic, forcing vehicles to slow significantly and contributing to extensive congestion. Útinform reported that the damaged vehicles occupied the inner lane, exacerbating the slowdown.
Officials urged drivers to seek alternate routes if possible, though they noted that increased travel times were also being observed on nearby roads, including Route 7 and the M6 motorway’s southern section.
The M7 incident was not isolated. Later reports from Útinform indicated two additional crashes occurring during the morning hours: one on the M1 motorway near Tata, where a collision toward the border created a 2- to 3-kilometer backup, and another in Nyíregyháza involving two passenger vehicles on Route 4.
Authorities confirmed that emergency crews remained active at all sites, working to clear wreckage and restore normal traffic flow. No official details regarding injuries were immediately available from the M7 or M1 crash sites.
