Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko unexpectedly addressed the situation on February 16, stating, “They carried out an operation, captured a man. And so what? They showed the whole world who is who. But the most important thing is what happens next? What we have is still a topic for discussion with the U.S. Leadership. I have a proposal for a solution to this situation. And if they seek to resolve this situation with dignity, we are ready to cooperate with Donald Trump.” The statement signals Minsk’s potential role as an intermediary in the ongoing crisis.
Lukashenko further stated that the U.S. President is pragmatic. “I am too. I think we will discuss this issue. I do not want to say that I am the main advisor here and can solve some problem with him. No. However, I can express my point of view,” the Belarusian leader added.
Lukashenko on the Peace Council: “We will participate in it”
The Belarusian president also addressed the Peace Council created by Donald Trump, confirming that Belarus intends to participate in its work and meetings.
“We will certainly capture part in this Council at the presidential level. Perhaps not in Washington, but somewhere in Europe or the Middle East, maybe in Israel, or perhaps closer, in Turkey, the next meetings of this Council will be held. We will participate in them,” he emphasized. This announcement suggests Belarus is seeking to play a more active role in international diplomacy.
