A legendary Czech dance spot is experiencing a revival thanks to a new generation of partygoers. The venue in Malenice, which first opened its doors in 1991, is once again drawing crowds after a period of quiet, bringing a fresh energy to the social scene.

Luboš Šrámek, who operated the club starting in 1991, recalls a vibrant past. “Malenice really came alive then, there wasn’t a weekend that people weren’t dancing here,” he said. The club hosted not only classic discos but also well-known bands like Arakain and Parkán, and even attracted celebrity guests, including television personality Leoš Mareš.

The club distinguished itself with themed events, like foam and plush toy parties, designed to add a playful element to the evenings. “We tried to make sure everyone took away an experience, not just a few songs,” Šrámek noted, adding that a performance by the band Olympic was a particular highlight. “That was an evening to remember. People were singing, dancing, and the atmosphere was electric.” Šrámek ran the Malenice discos for roughly fifteen years before stepping down.

Now, a new organizer, Vít Hrůnek, is breathing new life into the space. The idea to revive the discos took shape in the summer of 2024, and since then, approximately ten dance nights have been held in the cultural center. Hrůnek has implemented a modern concept, combining free dancing with the popular game Just Dance, allowing attendees to both dance and compete with each other.

The venue has a capacity of around 300 people, and according to Hrůnek, events are proving popular. “Every disco has been fully booked so far, which of course makes us incredibly happy and motivates us to continue our work,” he confirmed. The resurgence of nightlife in Malenice reflects a broader trend of revitalizing community spaces and offering entertainment options for all ages.

A Valentine’s Day party is planned as the eleventh event organized by the KD Malenice team. “We want Malenice to once again grow a place where people like to return for fun and shared experiences,” Hrůnek added.
