Neglected Dogs Rescued From Dangerous Property in Abilene, Texas
A mother dog and her puppies were rescued yesterday from a severely neglected property in Abilene, Texas, after being discovered by the founder of a local animal rescue organization.
Don Boston, of Abilene Stray Animal Program, initially encountered the mother dog wandering near a dirt road on September 30, 2025, and provided her with food. Following the dog, he discovered her puppies behind a fence on a property littered with sharp metal and lacking food or water. Several of the dogs exhibited signs of flystrike on their ears. “They are hungry,” Boston stated in a video posted online. The situation highlights the critical need for responsible pet ownership and animal welfare oversight.
After speaking with the property owner, Boston learned the dogs had been inherited following the death of a family member and multiple litters had been born on the property. He successfully convinced the owner to rehome the puppies, ensuring they received proper care. Boston also arranged for the mother dog to be spayed to prevent further unwanted litters in the unsafe environment. For those interested in supporting similar rescue efforts, organizations like the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals provide valuable resources.
While preparing for the spay surgery, Boston received notification from animal control that the mother dog had again escaped the property. As the owner did not respond to animal control’s attempts to contact them, Boston was granted foster care of the dog. He is now preparing to bring her home and find her a permanent, loving family. Boston stated he intends to provide the dog with “a happy life” after her ordeal, and animal control will continue to monitor the situation at the original property.
