Google Issues Surprise Pixel Update, Tablet Excluded
Google unexpectedly released a software update for Pixel phones today, October 31, 2025, with all models receiving the patch except for the Pixel Tablet.
The update, weighing approximately 30MB, appears to focus on behind-the-scenes improvements. While Google has not officially detailed the changes, Verizon’s software update page indicates the firmware “provides performance improvements.” For Pixel 10 users, the build number has been updated from BD3A.251005.003.W3 to BD3A.251005.003.W4, with similar adjustments across other Pixel devices. This unscheduled update highlights Google’s commitment to rapidly addressing potential issues, even outside of the regular monthly release cycle.
Speculation suggests the update may address a critical security vulnerability, as Google could have deferred these fixes until the anticipated November 2025 update. All Pixels have reportedly received an updated baseband firmware, though the kernel version remains unchanged, and a newer GPU driver is not included. Users can manually download and install the update files or factory images directly from Google if the over-the-air (OTA) update hasn’t yet arrived.
The late-October patch may potentially delay the arrival of the November security update, which typically rolls out within the first ten days of the month. This timing also aligns with recent leaks hinting at a November Android Feature Drop that could introduce theme pack support, GIF creation within the Pixel Studio app, and enhancements to the Pixel VIP widget.
Google has not commented on whether the unexpected update will impact the November release schedule, but officials have indicated they are focused on delivering a secure and stable experience for all Pixel users.

Despite the change log’s claim of performance improvements, Pixel 10 users should not get their hopes up about the update containing a newer GPU driver. The kernel version remains the same in this build, though all Pixels have supposedly received an updated baseband firmware.
Will the Pixel’s November update arrive later than usual?

This would also add credence to a recent leak about a November Android Feature Drop. It will supposedly add theme pack support to Pixels, allow creating GIFs in the Pixel Studio app, and further enhance the Pixel VIP widget.
Even otherwise, the next big feature-rich update for Pixels should be Android 16 QPR2. Google has already rolled out several beta builds of the OS, and a public build should be out in December. It will bring several notable changes, including expanded dark theme, 90:10 split screen support, enhanced HDR brightness, and app icon shape customization.
