A man is missing and presumed dead following a farm fire in Levanger, Norway, police said Sunday. The blaze as well left one person injured.
The incident underscores the dangers faced by rural communities and emergency responders when dealing with large-scale fires.
The farm is located in the municipality of Levanger in Trøndelag.
One person sustained burns and was transported to St. Olav’s Hospital by air ambulance, according to operations leader Martin Skjerve of the Trøndelag Police District.
Authorities have notified the victim’s next of kin.

Barn Destroyed by Fire
Police received a report of the fire at a farm in Levanger at 11:39 a.m. Sunday. A neighbor alerted emergency services after calling the 110 emergency number and then relaying the information to police and medical personnel, Skjerve said.
Emergency crews arrived on the scene around noon and reported the barn was fully engulfed in flames. “The barn was so badly ablaze that there was nothing to save. It just had to burn down,” the operations leader stated.

Firefighters reported gaining control of the blaze, with no danger to nearby buildings, Skjerve added. The fire was under control as of 2:23 p.m. Authorities said there were no animals inside the barn.
As of 4:55 p.m., police stated they were still working at the scene.
Scene Investigation Planned
On-scene commander Per Henrik Bykvist said firefighters are currently extinguishing remaining hotspots. “Once the site is cool enough, we will conduct a forensic investigation of the fire scene. But that will likely not happen today, given the level of heat,” Bykvist said.
What is the cause of the fire?
“We will need to get back to you on that,” the commander responded.
