Match Recap: Manchester United vs. Newcastle United

Without Bruno Fernandes in the lineup, Manchester United started brightly, pressing Newcastle’s defense through Benjamin Sesko, Mason Mount, and Matheus Cunha.

Newcastle goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was quickly called into action, while the Magpies looked to threaten through Jacob Murphy and Nick Woltemade.

Bruno Guimaraes posed a threat from midfield, but it was Manchester United who found the breakthrough in the 24th minute courtesy of Patrick Dorgu.

The goal originated from a Diogo Dalot cross into the box that Woltemade failed to clear. The loose ball fell to Dorgu, who unleashed a stunning left-footed volley that Ramsdale couldn’t reach.

Newcastle came out with renewed intensity in the second half, with Fabian Schar having a chance in the 51st minute, but his shot was blocked by Dorgu.

Manchester United nearly doubled their advantage in the 59th minute when Sesko broke through the defense, but his effort struck the crossbar.

Newcastle also came close in the 62nd minute, with Lewis Hall’s solo run ending in a shot that narrowly missed the target.

Newcastle appealed for a penalty in the 64th minute after a challenge from Lisandro Martinez on Fabian Schar, but VAR dismissed the claim.

Dalot had a golden opportunity to extend the lead in the 73rd minute, controlling a Martinez cross with his chest before sending a close-range shot over the bar.

Newcastle relentlessly attacked in the final ten minutes, searching for an equalizer, but their finishing proved lacking.

In the 90th minute, Lewis Miley had a clear sight of goal but his left-footed shot sailed over the bar.

Despite seven minutes of added time, Newcastle couldn’t find a way through, and Manchester United secured a 1-0 victory.
