Imphal – Violence is escalating in Manipur’s Ukhrul district as clashes between the Kuki and Naga communities intensify. A curfew has been imposed across the district and internet services have been suspended for five days, according to local authorities.

The recent surge in tensions stems from a decision by the Tangkhul Naga tribe to prohibit Kuki individuals from entering Ukhrul and Kamjong districts. Despite ongoing peace efforts, the violence is spreading throughout the region.

More than twenty Naga homes and businesses in Litan Sairakhong village were reportedly set ablaze. Ukhrul, a district with a Naga majority, has seen increased involvement from armed Naga groups, prompting many Kuki community members to flee the area. The conflict began Saturday when a Naga youth was attacked by a group of Kuki individuals, and authorities have deployed additional central security forces in response to the escalating situation.
