On Sunday, the Stadttheater Wiener Neustadt was transformed into the French capital of Paris. Singer Maria Bill delivered a stunning performance of Édith Piaf’s chansons, captivating the audience.
WIENER NEUSTADT. A standing ovation and three encores in a sold-out Stadttheater: singer and actress Maria Bill performed chansons by the iconic French singer Édith Piaf. She was accompanied by Michael Hornek on piano and Krzysztof Dobrek on accordion. Bill didn’t just sing about love; through stories and anecdotes, she brought Édith Piaf back to life on stage. “A wonderful audience, a truly great atmosphere,” Bill enthused after her performance.
Maria Großbauer, managing director of the Stadttheater, stated, “I am delighted to welcome such a great artist to our stage. It is personally important to me to provide a platform for women throughout the year.”
Cultural Councilor Franz Piribauer (ÖVP) didn’t miss the evening, attending with his wife Rosi, and Dorothea “Dorli” Draxler and Edgar Niemieczek from the Lower Austrian Folk Culture organization. “A great singer and a fantastic atmosphere,” Piribauer shared enthusiastically. For Edgar Niemieczek, it was a special occasion: “This is the first time I’ve been here since the reopening. It’s a beautiful ambiance with a wonderful artist.”
