In response to a rise in measles cases in Jalisco, Mexico, private universities and business organizations are encouraging students and employees to get vaccinated against the highly contagious viral disease. This proactive step aims to protect communities and prevent further spread of the infection, which can be particularly dangerous for vulnerable populations.
Raúl Flores López, president of the Centro Empresarial de Jalisco (Coparmex), explained that while no cases have been reported within affiliated companies, they are actively promoting vaccination among workers. “The recommendation is to remain alert to avoid contagions and be able to address them as quickly as possible,” he said.

Flores López added that they are monitoring the situation closely and will address any outbreaks promptly if they occur within member businesses.
Meanwhile, Gabriela Vázquez Armenta, dean of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Tecnológico de Monterrey, announced that the institution will provide support to the Jalisco Secretary of Health.
“Next week, as an educational institution, we will have a large-scale vaccination module. We believe this is an important part of the commitment of educational institutions to promote and prevent disease,” Vázquez Armenta stated.
Augusto Chacón, director of the Jalisco Cómo Vamos citizen observatory, emphasized the need for municipal health services to participate in the vaccination efforts. “Vaccinating within 25 blocks of a detected case requires a mobilization that puts significant stress on the health system,” he noted.
The increased vaccination efforts come as Jalisco faces a measles outbreak at the beginning of the year, with 324 active cases reported across the state. In response, the Jalisco Secretary of Health (SSJ), in coordination with the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS), the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (ISSSTE), and the Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional (Sedena), announced an expansion of vaccination brigades in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area (AMG).
