Meningitis C Vaccine Extended in Maceió: Locations & Dates

Health officials in Maceió, Brazil, are extending a meningitis C vaccination campaign following a accomplished initial response to recent cases in the city as announced by the Municipal Health secretariat. The extension, running February 2nd through 6th, aims to bolster protection against the perhaps deadly bacterial infection, especially in vulnerable communities. Health officials in Maceió, Brazil, have extended a recent meningitis C vaccination campaign for an additional week following a successful initial rollout, offering increased protection to residents against the potentially life-threatening bacterial infection.

The vaccination drive, initially launched as a targeted response to recent cases, will now run from February 2nd to February 6th. Vaccines will be available at 14 health units strategically located in priority sanitary districts to maximize access and convenience for the population.

The campaign aims to immunize individuals aged 3 months to 80 years who have not yet received a meningitis C vaccine. Those who have completed their vaccination schedule do not need to be revaccinated. Pregnant and breastfeeding women are eligible for vaccination with a medical recommendation.

The vaccination effort continues to focus on residents living within a one-kilometer radius of confirmed meningitis C cases in the Benedito Bentes and Serraria neighborhoods. A complete list of eligible addresses is available here.

The Municipal Health Secretariat emphasizes that the vaccine is safe, free of charge, and essential for preventing severe forms of meningitis. Individuals are encouraged to bring identification and, if available, their vaccination card. Vaccination is a crucial act of care, protection, and collective responsibility.
