Minneapolis saw clashes between law enforcement and demonstrators on Tuesday, as protests erupted following a recent shooting and escalating tensions over federal immigration enforcement. The demonstrations, fueled by concerns over Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) tactics, have drawn comparisons to Nazi practices by some protesters, according to reports from the scene.

Agents deployed tear gas in an attempt to disperse the crowds, creating an atmosphere described by reporters as “unbreathable” due to the heavy concentration of irritants. The situation unfolded at the intersection of 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue, a focal point for the ongoing demonstrations.

“I work for the people!” one officer with a rifle reportedly shouted at protesters. A response from the crowd was, “You don’t work for me! Get out!” The unrest was further compounded by a fire ignited in a dumpster after an explosive device was thrown inside, leading to traffic blockades.

The events have prompted calls for ICE to withdraw from Minnesota. Senator Amy Klobuchar, a Democrat, demanded, “Get ICE out of our state NOW!” Governor Tim Walz echoed the sentiment, stating that President Trump should immediately end the operation.

The latest unrest in Minneapolis follows a shooting earlier this month that claimed the life of Renee Good, who was fatally shot by federal agents during a similar operation. This incident sparked the current wave of large-scale protests across the state.

Under the Trump administration, ICE has become a central component of the pledge to carry out “the largest deportation operation in the history of the United States.” As part of the Operation Metro Surge campaign, approximately 2,000 armed agents were deployed to the Minneapolis and Saint Paul areas.
