Authorities in Niigata Prefecture have confirmed that the body of a missing 15-year-old girl was discovered in the Shinano River. The victim has been identified as Marin Higuchi, who had been reported missing from Tokamachi City.
The discovery occurred on a sandbar within the Shinano River in Nagaoka City. According to reports, the body was found by a man who had been gathering stones along the riverbank. The incident underscores the tragic conclusion of the search efforts for the teenager.
While this case has reached a grim resolution, other separate incidents involving the river have been reported. In a different occurrence, the body of a woman in her 50s from Niigata City’s Nishi Ward was also found floating in the Shinano River after witnesses reported seeing a human-like figure in the water.
The identification of Marin Higuchi follows a search operation that spanned multiple municipalities in the region, moving from the initial disappearance in Tokamachi to the recovery in Nagaoka.
