A new mobile health initiative is bringing vital cancer screenings directly to residents of the Hautes-Pyrénées region of France, addressing disparities in access to preventative care. The “Prévent’TIMM” unit – a collaborative effort involving multiple healthcare and governmental organizations – aims to improve early detection rates for breast, cervical, and colon cancers, especially among those in rural communities. The program, launched in response to identified healthcare gaps, will operate throughout the region offering appointments via Doctolib and direct phone line, with detailed schedules available to the public.
A mobile health unit is bringing crucial cancer screenings directly to residents of the Hautes-Pyrénées region of France, aiming to improve access to preventative care, particularly in rural areas. Early detection is a key factor in improving outcomes for many cancers, making initiatives like this vital for public health.
The “Prévent’TIMM” mobile unit, a collaborative effort between the Department of Hautes-Pyrénées and the ARS 65 (Regional Health Agency), offers organized screenings for breast, cervical, and colon cancers. This initiative addresses a significant public health challenge: ensuring equitable access to preventative services, especially for those living in areas with limited healthcare resources.
The Prévent’TIMM program is a partnership involving the CPAM (Health Insurance Fund), the MSA (Mutualité Sociale Agricole), SELAS Dépistage Barousse Pyrénées, the CETIR, and local healthcare professionals, including general practitioners and midwives. This collaborative approach ensures a coordinated and high-quality screening experience for patients.
A primary focus of the mobile unit is breast cancer screening through mammography. The service is available to women aged 50 to 74 who have not had a mammogram in the past 22 months and have no personal or family history of breast cancer. Each appointment includes a mammogram and a clinical breast exam, with the imaging procedure fully covered by the national health insurance system.
Prévent’TIMM also offers cervical cancer screening through Pap tests (frottis). This screening is recommended for women aged 25 to 65, with screening frequency determined by age. Appointments include a medical exam and the Pap test itself; a co-pay of €12.74 is required, but is fully reimbursed by supplemental health insurance.
The program aims to remove barriers to screening, such as geographical distance, limited availability, and difficulties accessing care, by offering convenient appointments through Doctolib or by phone, and by traveling directly to communities. A complete schedule of locations and dates is available on the Prévent’TIMM website.
Raising awareness about the mobile unit’s schedule is crucial to maximizing its impact. Preventative care and early detection are proven to save lives, and Prévent’TIMM represents a practical, community-based approach to improving health outcomes.
The Prévent’TIMM mobile unit will be in Capvern on May 7 and September 22. It will visit Galan on May 12 and November 23. La Barthe-de-Neste is scheduled for April 23, July 30, and November 17. Lannemezan will host the unit on June 12, April 7, and September 28. Appointments can be made with your doctor or by calling 07 50 75 09 69, or online through Doctolib (search for Préven’Timm) or at preventimm.fr.
