Aces’ NaLyssa Smith Calls Former Team, Indiana Fever, Most Challenging Opponent in Championship Run
Las Vegas Aces forward NaLyssa Smith revealed today that the Indiana Fever presented the most difficult challenge during her team’s successful 2025 WNBA playoff run, culminating in a championship victory.
Smith, appearing yesterday on an episode of “Between the Lines with Lisa Leslie,” acknowledged the Fever’s tenacious play during their five-game semifinal series. “Most challenging, I would probably have to say the Fever, honestly, which hurts me to say that,” Smith stated. “But I would have to say the Fever, for sure, because I feel like they just played with nothing to lose.”
The Aces ultimately defeated the Phoenix Mercury in a sweep to claim the 2025 WNBA title, but Smith emphasized the intensity of the Indiana series. She attributed the Fever’s strong performance to their underdog status and a determined effort. “I feel like when you are down like players and you know, it’s an abnormal season, it just forces you to have to play out your body,” Smith explained. “So I feel like that’s kind of what they did. And kudos to them. I feel like they had a hard-fought series with us, for sure.”
Smith was originally drafted by the Indiana Fever in 2022 and later traded to the Dallas Wings before landing with the Aces, a journey that saw her become a key contributor to a championship team. The Fever, led by rookie sensation Caitlin Clark, are widely expected to continue their upward trajectory following a promising 2025 season. The WNBA continues to grow in popularity, with record viewership numbers this year.
Aces officials have not yet commented on Smith’s remarks, but the team is currently focused on preparations for the upcoming 2026 season.
