Former After School member and actress NANA, whose real name is Im Jin-ah, will not face charges following an investigation into allegations of attempted murder and assault. South Korean authorities have ruled her actions were in self-defense.

The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency announced on January 16th that their investigation into the accusations against NANA found no evidence of wrongdoing, clearing her of both attempted murder and special assault charges. The case will not be forwarded to prosecutors.

The investigation stemmed from a complaint filed in December by a man in his 30s, currently incarcerated on robbery charges, who alleged that NANA attacked him with a weapon. The incident quickly drew public attention.

Police officially listed NANA as a suspect and launched a full investigation following the formal complaint. After questioning NANA on January 8th, authorities determined her actions constituted legitimate self-defense, leading to the decision not to prosecute.

This decision aligns with a previous assessment made by police when they initially arrested the man on robbery charges, where NANA’s response was already considered self-defense.

According to the investigation, the man forcibly entered NANA’s home in Guri City, Gyeonggi Province, around 6:00 AM on November 15th. Armed with a weapon, he threatened NANA and her mother, demanding money. He gained access by climbing a ladder to the balcony and discovering an unlocked door.

After locating NANA’s mother, the man allegedly choked and assaulted her. NANA, alerted by her mother’s cries, intervened, leading to a physical altercation during which the man sustained an injury to his chin.

Investigators concluded that NANA’s actions were a justified response to protect herself and her mother, fully meeting the criteria for self-defense, and therefore, no further legal action will be taken.
