Colorectal Cancer: The Importance of Screening

One in 30 French citizens will be affected by colorectal cancer during their lifetime. With over 47,000 new cases each year in France, it is the second most common cancer in women and the third most common in men. Early detection is critical, as the disease is curable in 9 out of 10 cases. A national screening program offers free testing to individuals aged 50 to 74, allowing them to undergo a rapid immunological test every two years, fully covered by health insurance. Despite this, participation rates remain low, around 33 percent, highlighting a continued demand for outreach and education.

Beyond these events, the CHRU de Nancy emphasizes that adopting a healthy lifestyle – including a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and reduced alcohol and tobacco consumption – can aid reduce the risk of developing colorectal cancer.
