Looking for a poetic escape? Brume Studio’s debut title, “Nebelmer”, offers a contemplative adventure experience. The game, developed by a team of Belgian students, is poised to release in early 2025.
“Nebelmer” places players in the role of Ixe, a young boy embarking on a journey to understand the world beyond his village. The village is perpetually shrouded in fog, leaving Ixe unaware of what lies outside his familiar surroundings. This focus on exploration and discovery reflects a growing trend in indie game development towards immersive, narrative-driven experiences.
Players will utilize a variety of movement skills – including gliding, surfing, and jumping – to navigate and explore a mystical mini-open world. According to Brume Studio, the game is designed to encourage players to take their time and fully explore the map. The studio, comprised of eight students from the Haute École Albert Jacquard in Namur, Belgium, initially created “Nebelmer” as a student project before deciding to turn it into a fully released game after winning the HEAJ prize for best student game. The team is comprised of former Master’s degree students.
The developers emphasize that exploration is central to both the narrative and gameplay of “Nebelmer,” aiming to provide a sense of discovering an unknown world in a peaceful, pressure-free atmosphere. The game’s release follows the unveiling of its Steam page and first trailer on August 10, 2024.
