Nintendo and Illumination have released a new trailer for “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” slated for release on April 1, 2024.

The trailer offers the first animated glimpse of both Yoshi and Birdo, characters beloved by generations of Mario fans.

While the film’s release date has been set for April 1 in Norway for some time, the U.S. premiere date has now been adjusted to align with this date as well.

During a presentation accompanying the trailer release, Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto addressed fan concerns raised following the initial trailer.

“After the first trailer, people asked ‘Isn’t Yoshi going to be in the movie?’ Of course he is,” Miyamoto stated, adding that the green dinosaur has been an integral part of Mario’s adventures for over 30 years.

The trailer showcases Mario and Luigi in what appears to be the Tostarena kingdom from “Super Mario Odyssey,” where they discover a frightened Yoshi while investigating a pipe. Quick shots also reveal Luigi in a frog suit and baby versions of the two plumbers. The film’s continued expansion of its character roster demonstrates the enduring appeal of the Mario franchise.

Rosalina and Bowser Jr. are also confirmed to be joining the cast, with Brie Larson and Benny Safdie providing the English voice acting, respectively. Nintendo confirmed during the presentation that animation work is now complete, and the film has entered post-production, with a focus on sound and music.
