Extended Recording Times, Expanded LUT Support, and Enhanced Settings Arrive in Nikon ZR Firmware Version 1.10

Nikon has released firmware version 1.10 for its cinema camera, the Nikon ZR. The update brings a suite of new features and improvements designed to enhance the camera’s capabilities for professional filmmakers.

The maximum recording time has been significantly extended from 125 minutes to 360 minutes (6 hours), enabling longer, uninterrupted takes. The update also introduces timecode input via a wired connection through the external microphone/line-in jack, simplifying synchronization with audio recording devices and other cameras. Furthermore, the camera now utilizes a naming convention similar to that of RED cameras, streamlining data management in multi-camera setups.

A warning line has been added to the information display for brightness, indicating maximum brightness, histogram, and waveform monitor during R3D NE video recording in Log3G10.

The number of LUTs that can be imported from a memory card with a custom setting has been increased from 10 to a maximum of 50, providing greater flexibility in color grading workflows. A “Power-on lamp energy saver” option has also been added to the setup menu, allowing users to choose whether to keep the power lamp illuminated at all times for quick confirmation of camera status, even with the monitor off.

Video file type can now be set to “R3D NE 12-bit (R3D)” in the video recording menu even when the recording mode is set to Auto. This update reflects Nikon’s commitment to providing filmmakers with professional-grade tools and workflows.

The update is available for download from Nikon.
