Nissan Overhauls Global Lineup: 11 Models to Be Phased Out
Nissan has announced a comprehensive restructuring of its global vehicle portfolio as part of a strategic recovery initiative known as “Re:Nissan.” To enhance profitability and operational efficiency, the automaker will reduce its total offering from 56 models down to 45, effectively phasing out 11 underperforming models.
This consolidation allows Nissan to redirect critical resources toward the development of remaining models, with a specific focus on advancing powertrain technologies and new innovations to maintain a competitive edge in the global automotive market. Such a move underscores the company’s commitment to streamlining its operations amidst shifting industry demands.
Under the new organizational framework, Nissan will categorize its fleet into four primary groups:
- “Heartbeat”: Reserved for the brand’s iconic models, including the Skyline and the Leaf.
- “Core Models”: High-volume mass-market vehicles such as the Qashqai and X-Trail.
- Growth Market Models: Specifically tailored for expanding regional markets.
- Partner Models: Vehicles developed through strategic collaborations.
The restructuring extends beyond the product lineup to the company’s internal engineering processes. Nissan plans to shorten the development cycle for new vehicles by utilizing fewer platforms and significantly reducing the total number of individual components.
The company’s luxury division, Infiniti, is similarly set for expansion. The brand will introduce several new additions to its portfolio, including a new sporty sedan and a series of hybrid SUVs.
