Koray Kavukcuoglu, AI architect at Google and technical director of DeepMind, stated that the tech giant has “fundamentally shifted the performance” by training models on Google-designed, custom-built chips. The company also announced it is immediately integrating its latest AI models into its products.

Google has also improved the methods used to train its models, an area where OpenAI has recently faced challenges.

Even before the launch of Gemini 3, Altman acknowledged that OpenAI would need to focus to withstand short-term competitive pressure. “Expect things to get a bit choppy for a while,” he reportedly said.

Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) Monday evening: “Search is one of the biggest opportunities. ChatGPT now represents roughly 10% of search activity and is growing rapidly.” “Now we’re focused on making ChatGPT even more capable, growing and expanding it around the world – and making it feel even more intuitive and personal,” he added.

With over 800 million weekly users, OpenAI holds a substantial market share in overall chatbot usage. However, data from analytics firm Similarweb indicates that people are spending more time conversing with Gemini than with ChatGPT.
