Naomi Osaka, currently ranked No. 17 in the WTA, made a stunning entrance at the Australian Open, captivating the crowd with a dramatic all-white ensemble before battling to a first-round victory over Croatia’s Antonia Ruzic.

Osaka arrived on Rod Laver Arena draped in a long white veil, a matching hat, a white dress, and carrying a white parasol. The WTA hailed the entrance on social media, calling it “a legendary walk-on” accompanied by a fire emoji. Despite the show-stopping arrival, Osaka faced a tough challenge on the court, ultimately prevailing 6:3, 3:6, and 6:4 after a grueling 2 hours and 22 minutes.

Defending champion Madison Keys (WTA 9) overcame an early scare in her opening match. Keys fell behind 0-4 against Ukrainian debutante Oleksandra Olijnykowa (WTA 92), but rallied to win 7:6 (8:6), 6:1. The comeback win demonstrates Keys’ resilience as she begins her title defense.

Fifth-ranked Jelena Rybakina also advanced to the second round with a decisive victory over Kaja Juvan (WTA 100), securing a 6:4, 6:3 win. Rybakina, considered a strong contender for the title, needed just one break per set to control the match.
