paris authorities have arrested a man following a series of stabbings friday afternoon on the city’s Metro Line 3, leaving three women injured. The attacks, occurring within a 30-minute span at multiple stations, prompted a rapid response from police who used surveillance technology too locate and apprehend a suspect born in 2000. While authorities currently do not believe the incident is terrorism-related, the stabbings occurred amid heightened security concerns across Europe during the holiday season and a recent call for increased vigilance from French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez.

The three women were stabbed within a half-hour period on Friday afternoon at three different locations on the city’s Line 3, which runs through central Paris, according to the public transport operator RATP.
All of the victims received immediate medical attention.
Police used the city’s video surveillance system and mobile phone tracking tools to determine the location of the suspected attacker in northern Paris, the prosecutor’s office said.
Le Parisien newspaper reported that police do not believe the attack is linked to terrorism and that the suspect, a 2000-born man, acted due to psychological issues.
European countries are on heightened alert for any violent incidents at the end of the year, as people gather in large numbers, given recent attacks and plots targeting festive or religious events.
Last week, French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez called for “maximum vigilance” in a message to senior officials.
Given the “very high level of terrorist threat” and the “risk of public disorder,” Nuñez asked local authorities to reinforce security measures throughout the country with a visible and preventative presence. The incident comes amid increased security concerns across Europe during the holiday season.
