A Latvian-language adaptation of the 2016 Italian film “Perfetti sconosciuti” (“perfect Strangers”) is among a trio of Baltic nation productions recently completed,signaling a growing regional collaboration in filmmaking. The darkly comedic thriller, now titled “Perfektie,” explores the fragility of trust in long-term relationships through a provocative game of shared phone secrets. Filmed concurrently wiht Estonian and Lithuanian versions in Vilnius, the project demonstrates a rising trend of remakes and co-productions within the Baltics seeking to capitalize on established international narratives.

A Latvian adaptation of the hit Italian black comedy “Perfect Strangers” is set to arrive, offering a fresh take on the story of secrets revealed. Directed by Džilindžers, the film promises a darkly humorous look at the hidden lives of a close-knit group of friends.

The plot centers around seven longtime friends gathering for dinner during a full moon. As the evening progresses, they propose a game: everyone must share every incoming message and call on their phones. What begins as a seemingly harmless pastime quickly spirals as the group discovers truths they never expected, according to producers.

The cast includes Dārta Daneviča, Dainis Grūbe, Intars Rešetins-Pētersons, Linda Kalniņa, Mārtiņš Eglienis, Jānis Āmanis, Anete Kursīte, and Santa Breikša. The film is poised to join a growing trend of international remakes capitalizing on successful source material.

Notably, “Perfektie” was filmed simultaneously with Lithuanian and Estonian versions, all utilizing the same locations in Vilnius. Džilindžers directed the Latvian iteration, with Kristians Alhimionoks serving as producer. The original screenplay was penned by Paolo Genovese, Filippo Bologna, and Paolo Costella, with Džilindžers handling the adaptation. Mihkels Soe served as cinematographer, Gregs Zundelovičs as production designer, and Anda Ščerbaka as costume designer. The film is based on Paolo Genovese’s original work.
