Peter Greene, the character actor best known for portraying the iconic villain Zed in Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction,” has died. He was 60 years old.
Greene passed away at his New York home, his representative Gregg Edwards confirmed Friday. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
“He was a fantastic guy,” Edwards said. “Probably one of the nicest character actors on the planet; he worked with everybody.”
Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Greene landed some of his earliest prominent roles in 1992’s “Laws of Gravity” and 1993’s “Clean, Shaven,” according to IMDb.
He gained widespread recognition in 1994, playing the memorable villain in Tarantino’s groundbreaking “Pulp Fiction.” That same year, he took on another key villainous role alongside Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz in “The Mask,” cementing his reputation for playing delightfully menacing characters.
At the time of his death, Greene was involved in two projects, including a documentary focusing on the withdrawal of federal government funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Edwards shared.
“We’ve been friends for over a decade,” Edwards said. “Just a really kind man.”
