A key leader from the Pheu Thai Party explained the decision to form a coalition government with the Bhumjaithai Party, asserting the move prioritizes tangible policy outcomes.
On February 15, 2026, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Phumtham Wechayachai, a leading figure within the Pheu Thai Party, released a statement clarifying the party’s decision to join a governing coalition with the Bhumjaithai Party.
Wechayachai acknowledged that the decision will likely be met with both support and opposition, characterizing such division as a natural element of democratic politics. However, he emphasized that the central question isn’t “who is partnering with whom,” but rather, “what will the public gain from this decision?”
“While the opposition can freely voice their opinions, governing requires taking concrete action,” Wechayachai stated. “We have chosen a path that will deliver tangible policy results. The economy must move forward, people’s livelihoods must improve, and issues such as drug addiction, national security, and inequality must be addressed.”
He added that politics isn’t about party prestige, but about responsibility to the country, and that the party intends to actively participate in governance rather than remain on the sidelines. The coalition agreement comes after a period of political maneuvering following recent elections.
“However, we respect and listen to the reasoning behind all differing opinions, especially the concerns expressed by supporters regarding this coalition,” Wechayachai continued. “All viewpoints are valuable and will be used as important information in adjusting the party’s strategy and direction.”
Wechayachai emphasized that for the Pheu Thai Party, “power” exists to improve the lives of the people, and the voice of the people is the guiding compass for decision-making.
