Abu Dhabi hosts the final race of the 2025 Formula 1 season this weekend, with the Driver’s Championship still wide open between McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris, and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen [3]. Piastri, who missed the first practice session on Friday with Patou Ward substituting, ended FP2 in 11th position as he and his team seek to close the points gap [3]. The Australian sits 16 points behind teammate Norris and 4 behind Verstappen heading into Saturday’s qualifying session.

The Australian enters this weekend’s season finale trailing teammate Lando Norris by 16 points and Max Verstappen of Red Bull by 4, as all three drivers compete for the Driver’s Championship in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Piastri explained he started the weekend well, gradually increasing his pace.
“I got a really good pace on the medium tires. On the softs, I just didn’t really have any grip on that first quick lap,” he said.

“I’d say I’m still searching for my pace, but after just one session, it’s not too bad.”
When asked about how much adjustment would be needed overnight to improve for tomorrow, the young driver insisted major changes weren’t necessary.
“I think it’s just small details. The car is generally in a good place. It wasn’t perfect, but there are no major issues,” he stated.
“I feel really good. The car feels quick. I just need to get a few more laps under my belt and find my rhythm. Hopefully we’ll be where we need to be on Saturday.”
