Niantic’s augmented reality game, Pikmin Bloom, is launching a series of New Year events this month, offering players fresh in-game content and challenges. The events, running now through February, introduce new collectible Pikmin variations and opportunities to earn rewards through gameplay. players will need to update to version v134.5 or later to fully experience the new features, including the visually distinct osechi Pikmin.
Niantic’s augmented reality mobile game, Pikmin Bloom, is kicking off the new year with a series of in-game events and exclusive items available throughout January and February. The events introduce new collectible Pikmin, challenges, and opportunities for players to customize their in-game experience.
Players can earn “koma coins” by completing event missions, planting flowers, discovering mystery boxes by destroying Magnificent Mushrooms, and through premium event pass purchases, limited-time bundles, or exclusive items in the in-game store. These koma coins are essential for acquiring special Pikmin sprouts dressed for the occasion, including Pikmin sporting 2024 glasses and outfits inspired by the New Year celebrations. Note that the 2024 glasses are not available for Ice Pikmin.
A key component of the event involves destroying Magnificent Mushrooms to uncover mystery boxes containing koma coins and Pikmin sprouts dressed as 2025 confetti launchers. According to the game developers, Osechi Pikmin, 2025 confetti launcher Pikmin, Pikmin with 2024 glasses, and Pikmin with 2023 glasses are particularly effective against these mushrooms.
Throughout the event, players may encounter Giant Magnificent Mushrooms on weekends, which contain rarer mystery boxes. These weekends will also feature the Mushroom Battle Megaphone, allowing players to team up with friends up to three times a day to tackle these tougher challenges. The Giant Magnificent Mushrooms will appear on the weekends of January 3-4, January 10-11, January 17-18, January 24-25, and January 31.
Niantic is also offering a range of exclusive items in the in-game store and web store. From December 31 at 3:00 PM UTC to January 31 at 8:59 AM UTC, players can purchase an exclusive Osechi event bundle designed to help complete event challenges. This bundle includes petals for completing missions, mushroom recharge tickets, and a generous supply of koma coins.
Starting January 1 at 12:00 AM local time and running through January 31 at 11:59 PM local time, players can find flower bundles (butterfly orchids and camellias), Osechi event gift packages, and limited-time New Year-themed Mii outfits available for purchase.
Special mission tickets will also be available, offering Pikmin sprouts with 2023 glasses. From January 1 at 12:00 AM to February 2 at 11:59 PM local time, players can purchase tickets for special missions to obtain golden Pikmin sprouts of various colors wearing 2023 glasses, as well as golden Pikmin sprouts dressed as Osechi, 2025 confetti launchers, and those with 2024 glasses. Mission completion deadlines vary, with some extending to January 31, 2027, and others to March 31, 2026.
Players who invite friends and family to play Pikmin Bloom between January 1 and January 31 will receive golden Pikmin sprouts dressed as any of the eight Osechi Pikmin types: red, yellow, blue, purple, white, winged, rocky, or icy.
