Pistons Sign Guard Wendell Moore Jr., Waive Colby Jones

The Detroit Pistons announced today they have signed guard Wendell Moore Jr. to a two-way contract and waived guard Colby Jones to create a roster spot.

Moore, who was recently waived by the Boston Celtics during training camp, is familiar with the Pistons organization, having played 20 games for the team last season. He previously spent two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves and finished last season on a two-way contract with the Charlotte Hornets. Across 90 NBA games, Moore has averaged 2.3 points in 8.1 minutes per contest, and saw increased playing time last season, averaging 4.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 13.9 minutes across 36 games.

Jones appeared in one game for the Pistons this season, receiving seven minutes of playing time. He was acquired by Detroit on a two-way deal in late July after being traded from the Washington Wizards and subsequently waived by the Oklahoma City Thunder. His release highlights the competitive nature of roster spots in the NBA, especially for young players seeking consistent opportunities. You can find more information about two-way contracts and their implications on the NBA’s official website.

The Pistons will now look to integrate Moore into their system as they navigate the early part of the 2025-26 NBA season. Team officials have not commented further on the roster moves at this time.
