Plura has launched its updated Fastmode conductor camera system, featuring SDI data insertion.

Plura is addressing the demand for modern alternatives to traditional analog systems in performing arts venues with the release of its enhanced Fastmode conductor camera system. Designed for use in opera houses, orchestras, and music theaters, the system provides fast, scalable, and reliably synchronized video transmission – crucial for live feeds of a conductor’s movements to the orchestra pit, stage, or audience areas. This technology is part of a broader trend toward digital workflows in live performance.

Digital Systems Replace Outdated Technology

“Eventually, the last CRT monitor will be retired – and at that point, transitioning to digital technology is unavoidable,” said Thomas Rock, Director of Operations at Plura Europe.

The Vienna State Opera is among the institutions already utilizing Plura’s system, citing its combination of speed, scalability, and integration capabilities. Fastmode monitors are available in sizes ranging from 9 to 86 inches, offering flexible deployment options – from the orchestra pit to the stage or control room – via wireless or SDI connections. In some cases, existing FBAS cabling can even be reused, though a preliminary assessment is recommended.

World Premiere: Data Insertion via SDI

Plura has introduced a new capability: the ability to overlay text and time information directly onto conductor monitors via SDI, leveraging the company’s proprietary Rubidium system. Select control data, such as monitor backlighting, is now transmitted directly through the SDI signal, eliminating the need for additional control lines. This streamlined approach simplifies setup and reduces cabling complexity.

Open for Integration: Control via Ember+

A key feature of the system is its compatibility with open protocols. Brightness, signal switching, and other parameters can be controlled directly from the control room or via external controllers thanks to Ember+ support. In addition to the main conductor image transmission, other control functions, such as lighting and time synchronization, can be seamlessly integrated.
