Pokémon GO is celebrating the Lunar New Year, beginning February 17th, with an in-game event that will increase the appearance of several Pokémon. The event, which runs through February 21st, is the latest example of how augmented reality games continue to blend digital experiences with real-world events.

During the event, players will encounter increased numbers of Ponyta, Galarian Ponyta, Fuecoco, Blitzle, and Darumaka in the wild. There will also be an increased chance to identify Shiny Blitzle, Shiny Darumaka, and Shiny Gimmighoul.

Niantic, the developer of Pokémon GO, is also offering several in-game bonuses. These include an increased chance of receiving Lucky Pokémon through trades and becoming Lucky Friends with other players. PokéStops may also turn gold without the use of a Golden Lure Module.

Trainers can participate in event-themed Field Research tasks to earn encounters with event Pokémon. A Collection Challenge will also be available, offering Stardust and an encounter with an event-themed Pokémon as rewards.

A Timed Research opportunity is available for $1.99 (or the equivalent in local currency), providing rewards such as 200 PokéCoins, two Lucky Eggs, one Incense, and encounters with Blitzle, and Darumaka. This Timed Research must be completed by 8:00 p.m. Local time on February 21st, 2026. Players can also purchase tickets to gift to friends who have reached Great Friends status or higher.

The event runs from Tuesday, February 17th, at 10:00 a.m. To Saturday, February 21st, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. Local time.

Happy Lunar New Year, Trainers!
