Iconic Brand in Insolvency – Investor Could Rescue Polo Motorrad

According to a report in Wirtschaftswoche, a potential turnaround for the company is now within reach. While negotiations are ongoing, Polo is reportedly optimistic about being acquired by an investor. The news comes as retailers across Europe navigate a challenging economic climate.

The company is currently being evaluated by multiple potential buyers, according to the Wirtschaftswoche report. Andrew Thorndike, CEO of Polo Motorrad and Sportswear GmbH, stated that a “viable shortlist with several interested parties, primarily financial investors” has already been established. He expressed confidence that the business could continue operating successfully under new ownership, with a final decision expected by the end of March.

Polo Motorrad Navigates Insolvency – Over 40 Years of History

Polo has been trading in motorcycle apparel and accessories since 1980. The company employs approximately 700 people across roughly 90 stores, and the restructuring process is intended to preserve the majority of these positions. Thorndike noted that customer demand remains strong.

The insolvency was attributed to a “strained overall economic situation” by the Auto-Medienportal. Weak sales across the industry put Polo in a difficult position despite positive revenue growth in 2025. (Sources: Auto-Medienportal, Wirtschaftswoche) (nhi)
