Pope Leo XIV has delivered a message to participants in the plenary assembly of the French Episcopal Conference, addressing internal divisions within the Church and the ongoing crisis of abuse. The message, signed by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, highlights concerns over liturgical disputes and the handling of abuse cases, issues the Church considers paramount.
The assembly is taking place in Lourdes from March 24 to March 26. The Pope’s message urges a path of mutual acceptance in resolving tensions surrounding liturgical celebrations, acknowledging the pain caused by divisions related to the celebration of the Eucharist. He emphasized the need for renewed perspectives and understanding to heal this wound within the Church.
The message too addressed the ongoing fight against the abuse of children, stressing the importance of perseverance in long-term prevention efforts. Pope Leo XIV called for a firm commitment to moving forward with determination, offering encouragement and renewed confidence to clergy in France who have faced challenging times. He also insisted on ensuring justice for victims in cases involving guilty clergy.
Recognizing the fundamental importance of Catholic education for the future of the world and the proclamation of the Gospel, the Pope encouraged a steadfast defense of the Christian character of Catholic educational institutions. This comes as debates continue globally about the role of faith-based education in modern society.
