Porrentruy, Switzerland, is implementing changes to its parking policies effective January 1, according to a recent announcement from the city’s Municipalité. The rollout of the new regulations was delayed due to the resolution of three appeals and longer-than-anticipated road marking work.

New Online Sales Platform and Revised Parking Fees

The changes include the introduction of paid parking in previously free zones on the outskirts of the city, such as the Colombière lot, at a rate of 1 Swiss franc per hour. However, the validity of blue parking zones will be extended to three hours, up from one and a half. Designated carpool parking areas, including those near the Voyeboeuf leisure complex and the cemetery, will remain free of charge.

Subscription rates have also been adjusted. Commuters will now pay 120 Swiss francs monthly for an assigned parking space, an increase from the current 60 francs. Unassigned spaces will maintain a monthly fee of 60 francs. “This provides the opportunity to park in different locations throughout the city,” explained Anne Roy, the municipal counselor responsible for security.

Residents of Porrentruy will see their monthly subscription fee rise to 30 Swiss francs. A new online platform has been launched to facilitate subscription purchases, allowing users to pay directly via the internet. Individuals without online access can contact the municipal police for assistance. Daily passes for tourists and tradespeople will also be available through the new platform.

The adjustments to Porrentruy’s parking system reflect a broader trend of municipalities seeking to optimize revenue and manage urban space more efficiently. /alr
