Oslo, Norway – In a novel approach to defense technology, engineers at teh Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) have successfully adapted consumer gaming hardware for military use. The FFI team integrated a standard PlayStation 5 into a remotely operated vehicle (ROV), demonstrating the potential for cost-effective and high-performance solutions in specialized defense applications. The project, which began in late 2022, highlights a growing trend of utilizing readily available commercial technology to enhance military capabilities and reduce reliance on bespoke, expensive hardware.
PS5 Power in Hand
Engineers at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) have successfully integrated a PlayStation 5 (PS5) into a military-grade, remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The project, initiated in late 2022, demonstrates the potential for utilizing commercial gaming technology in specialized defense applications.
