Spanish footballer Rafa Mir is facing a potential prison sentence of 10 years and six months following accusations of sexual assault and causing injuries, as confirmed on Friday, March 6, 2026, by the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Valencia.

The forward, currently playing for Elche alongside Chilean teammate Lucas Cepeda, is embroiled in a significant legal battle that threatens his career.

The incident dates back to September 2024, when Mir – then a Valencia player – was detained along with fellow footballer Pablo Jara after a woman filed a complaint alleging a sexual assault at the player’s residence.

According to the complaint, the women had met the footballers at a nightclub and subsequently went to Mir’s home, where the alleged assault took place.

The case progressed in October 2025, when the investigating judge of Instruction Court No. 8 in Llíria decided to formally indict both accused men. The judicial order against Mir cites evidence of sexual assault with penetration and the use of violence.

In its indictment, the Prosecutor’s Office is seeking a nine-year prison sentence for the sexual assault charge, along with an additional 18 months for the injuries inflicted. They are also requesting a 10-year restraining order preventing Mir from approaching or contacting the victim, as well as seven years of supervised release following any prison term.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office is also requesting that Mir be disqualified from any profession or occupation involving contact with minors.

For the second accused, Pablo Jara, the Prosecutor is requesting a four-year prison sentence for sexual assault and a fine of €1,350.

Regarding civil liability, the prosecutor is asking Rafa Mir to compensate the victim with €74,000, even as Jara is requested to pay €6,280.
