A controversial red card issued to América defender Ramón Juárez during Wednesday’s match against Atlético de San Luis has been overturned by the Mexican Soccer Federation’s Disciplinary Committee, a decision announced Friday evening. The reversal of the call-which initially contributed to a 2-0 loss for América-means Juárez is now eligible to play in Sunday’s crucial contest against Pachuca as the team seeks its first win of the Clausura 2026 season. Manager André Jardine had publicly questioned the initial ejection, stating it negatively impacted the match.

América received a significant boost Friday as the Mexican Soccer Federation’s Disciplinary Committee overturned the red card and one-game suspension issued to Ramón Juárez following a review of the incident during the Clausura 2026 match between América and Atlético de San Luis.

“The expulsion complicated the match, the press likes these moments” : Jardiné after América’s defeat

The controversial play occurred in the 20th minute of Wednesday night’s contest at Ciudad de los Deportes stadium. Referee Vicente Reynoso sent Juárez off for a foul on Juan Manuel Sanabria, deeming him the last defender, a decision that heavily impacted the match and ultimately led to a 0-2 loss for América.

Initially, América’s management wasn’t planning to appeal the ejection, but ultimately decided to submit a review of the play to the Disciplinary Committee.

Was Ramón Juárez’s ejection unwarranted?

After analyzing the evidence presented, the committee determined that the red card shown to the center-back was the result of an incorrect refereeing assessment. As a result, the red card has been rescinded and the one-match suspension is lifted, meaning Juárez is now eligible to play in Sunday’s match against Pachuca.

Thanks to this resolution, Ramón Juárez is now available for selection by head coach André Jardine when the Águilas travel to face Tuzos del Pachuca at Estadio Hidalgo. The homegrown player will travel with the team to Hidalgo on Saturday as part of the squad hoping to secure their first win of the season.
