Chiefs’ Rashee Rice Returns to Practice, Set to Debut Sunday Against Raiders

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice participated in his first practice today after completing a six-game suspension stemming from an offseason incident, and is expected to play Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Head coach Andy Reid announced Rice will make his season debut against the Raiders (1 p.m. ET, CBS), though the extent of his playing time remains uncertain. “How many snaps he gets, [I don’t know],” Reid said. “He’s excited to be back in and going. I think getting through practices [this week] will be good for him to get into the swing of things.” Rice’s return is significant for the Chiefs’ offense, which has been seeking consistent production from its receiving corps.

The Chiefs anticipate Rice will play alongside fellow receivers Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown for the first time this season. Despite Rice’s absence, Kansas City has maintained a strong offensive output, averaging 31.6 points over the last three games. Reid acknowledged the need for receivers to manage expectations regarding playing time, stating, “There’s one ball, and somebody isn’t going to get every snap…They got to check that ego.” Rice was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years’ probation in July for his role in a multi-car crash in Dallas. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes expressed enthusiasm about Rice’s return, saying, “He’s going to want to be out there every single play.” However, Mahomes also noted the importance of a measured re-integration, adding, “It’s going to be our job, as teammates and coaches, to build him back the right way.” Rookie left tackle Josh Simmons did not participate in practice today due to a personal matter, and his return timeline remains unclear. Reid stated the team is continuing to handle Simmons’ situation internally and will provide updates when available.
