A leading colorectal surgeon has shed light on the factors contributing to rectal cancer and preventative measures individuals can take. The discussion comes as several public figures, including Saudi Arabian artist Fayez Al Malki, have recently addressed their health battles.

According to Professor Ahmed Al Zubaidi, the likelihood of developing tumors in the colon and rectum for a person with no additional environmental factors is around 9%.

However, that percentage jumps to 27% for individuals with a family history or genetic predisposition to the disease.

“The cause behind rectal cancer is lifestyle,” Al Zubaidi explained in a recent video. “In the past, people ate less and were more active. Now, we see a pattern of overeating and reduced physical activity.”

The specialist emphasized the importance of avoiding diets high in saturated fats and abstaining from smoking. He also recommended increased preventative screenings, specifically colonoscopies, beginning at age 45.

Al Malki recently revealed his own health challenges, confirming he is undergoing treatment after the discovery of tumors in his rectum and abdomen. He assured fans he is currently in good condition.
