This article discusses RegioJet‘s expansion of its high-comfort bus service-previously focused on international routes-to domestic lines within the Czech Republic. The buses, featuring a unique single-seat configuration for increased passenger space, are now serving routes within the country, sparking discussion among readers as evidenced by the eight comments already posted on the article.
Compared to vehicles on international routes, the buses offer an additional 15 seats.
RegioJet has added 10 additional Setra S 531 DT double-decker buses to its fleet, expanding its capacity on domestic routes. After two years of operation on international lines, this marks the first time the company is deploying these buses within the Czech Republic. The domestic versions of the buses can accommodate a total of 72 passengers, a higher capacity than their international counterparts.
The fleet expansion was announced by the transportation provider in a press release. RegioJet (officially operating buses under the company Student Agency) now operates a total of 45 of these buses manufactured in Germany.
The new buses will initially serve routes including Prague – Jihlava – Brno, Prague – Český Krumlov, Prague – Karlovy Vary, and Brno – Ostrava. The Prague to Brno route previously utilized the buses exclusively for international services.
RegioJet states that the buses’ amenities are comparable to first-class accommodations on trains or airplanes, and are now being extended to select domestic routes. This move reflects a growing trend among European transportation providers to elevate the passenger experience on bus travel.
Unlike the buses used for international routes, the domestic versions will feature a 2+2 seating configuration on the upper deck, rather than the 2+1 arrangement. Despite this change, the pitch between seats remains the same, resulting in 15 additional seats compared to the international models. The lower deck will continue to offer 20 seats, mirroring the international configuration. Notably, ticket prices will be consistent regardless of whether passengers choose to sit on the upper or lower level.
“More than thirty of these modern buses are already in service on our international routes. Now, passengers traveling domestically can enjoy the same level of comfort. We’re offering features like more legroom, a modern coffee machine with bean-to-cup coffee, and free drinking water,” says Dita Tomešová, CEO of RegioJet’s bus transportation division.
Each seat is fully adjustable and equipped with an ergonomic table, adjustable headrest, and an individual multimedia system providing access to movies, games, and online newspapers. The buses also offer Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as 230V power outlets and both USB and USB-C ports for charging electronic devices.
