Renault is ending production of the Mobilize Duo, its electric microcar launched earlier this year, as the automaker restructures its mobility division. The Duo, intended to compete with vehicles like the Citroën Ami and serve as a successor to renault’s earlier twizy, will cease orders after December 31, 2025, according to a recent press release. The move comes as Renault refocuses Mobilize on charging solutions and discontinues its car-sharing operations alongside the compact vehicle.

Renault has discontinued sales of the Mobilize Duo just months after its launch. The electric vehicle, positioned as a successor to the Twizy, aimed to compete with the Citroën Ami in the burgeoning microcar market.

Renault pioneered the electric quadricycle segment with the 2011 launch of the Twizy, a unique vehicle blending features of both a car and a scooter.

In 2024, responding to the success of the Citroën Ami, Renault reintroduced the concept with the Mobilize Duo, essentially a “Twizy V2.” However, the vehicle’s run will be short-lived, as a recent press release quietly announced the end of its production.

Orders Open Until December 31st

A spokesperson for Mobilize, Renault’s dedicated mobility division, confirmed the decision, stating that orders will be accepted until December 31, 2025.

The decision comes as part of a broader restructuring of Mobilize. Charging and energy activities will now fall under Renault’s direct control, while other operations – including car sharing and the Duo – are being discontinued.

While Mobilize has not publicly released sales figures for the Duo, the company acknowledged that performance was “below expectations.” Plans for a commercial version, dubbed the Bento, were ultimately scrapped.

A Proposal Too Extreme?

The Mobilize Duo largely mirrored the Twizy, featuring a tandem seating arrangement, distinctive gull-wing doors, and two powertrain options.

The license-free version, limited to 45 km/h, was priced at €9,990. The licensed version, capable of reaching 80 km/h, started at €12,500, both offering a range of 160 km thanks to a substantial battery pack – utilizing one of the four modules from the Renault 5.

The discontinuation marks a swift end for this unconventional offering, potentially hampered by its price point compared to the Ami’s €8,190 and its less conventional tandem architecture. This is the second automotive setback for Mobilize, following the unsuccessful launch of the Limo, a rebadged Chinese electric sedan intended for ride-hailing services.
