Indonesian authorities have eased vehicle registration renewal requirements, allowing drivers to extend their vehicle tax stickers (STNK) without presenting the owner’s national ID card (KTP) under specific conditions.

The change, announced by Indonesia’s Traffic Corps (Korlantas) of the National Police, applies to vehicle owners who previously held the registration and can provide a written commitment to update the ownership name by 2027.

Under the latest policy, individuals seeking to renew their STNK are no longer required to submit the original KTP of the registered owner, provided they sign an affidavit pledging to complete the name transfer process within the next few years.

Officials stated the adjustment aims to reduce bureaucratic hurdles for citizens while maintaining accountability for eventual administrative updates.

The policy applies nationwide but was first highlighted in Jakarta, where residents reported successfully renewing registrations using only the previous owner’s documentation and a signed promise to amend the records.

Similar measures were previously tested in regional police jurisdictions, where officials noted improved compliance and fewer delays at registration offices.

Authorities emphasized that the relaxation does not eliminate the legal requirement to update vehicle ownership records but provides a temporary pathway for renewal when immediate documentation is unavailable.

The adjustment reflects broader efforts by Indonesian law enforcement to streamline public services without compromising regulatory integrity.
