Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie defeated Asseco Resovia Rzeszów 3-1 on Thursday, February 7, 2026, in the 20th round of Poland’s PlusLiga. This marks the third victory for Zawiercie against Resovia this season, solidifying their position as a formidable force in the league. The match featured a contentious video review in the third set, but ultimately Zawiercie’s resilience proved decisive.

Fourth Encounter

Asseco Resovia fell to a 1-3 defeat in the PlusLiga contest, with the third set proving particularly frustrating for the Rzeszów side. Despite leading for much of the set, they ultimately lost in a tight 32-34 finish.

A challenge call sparked debate during the match. When Aaron Russell’s serve was initially called out, the referee initiated a review. Unable to definitively determine the call, the action was replayed. Zawiercie’s players pointed out that the ball appeared to graze Asseco Resovia’s Artur Szalpuk before landing out of bounds. –Yes, yes, I touched the ball. I think everyone understands that in that moment of the match I wouldn’t admit it, but now, after the game, I’m not going to pretend to be stupid. That’s all there is to it– Szalpuk conceded.

The Challenge Didn’t Derail Us

However, Artur Szalpuk insisted the video review didn’t disrupt his team’s momentum. –I don’t agree that it broke our wings. We were leading throughout the set, it was 21-18, we had a counterattack on our side and then something started to fall apart. We even had a set point, but we didn’t take our chances. We invited Zawiercie back into the game and that’s why we lost. I don’t think we played very badly, but we didn’t play exceptionally either– the Asseco Resovia player assessed.

The fourth set also didn’t start well for Massimo Bottiego’s team. -It’s a shame we couldn’t close out the third set. We started the fourth 1-6 down and it was very difficult to recover. We played a little better later, but it was too late to make up the deficit– Szalpuk added.

Upcoming Fixture

The two teams will meet again this Wednesday in a Champions League match. –I hope the scenario will be different. We are constantly trying to improve our game and fight as best we can. The season is crazy and unpredictable. We have our great moments, we also have worse ones. We’ll see how this story ends– Artur Szalpuk stated. Asseco Resovia currently sits in 4th place in the PlusLiga table, holding a narrow one-point lead over AZS Olsztyn, who play in Gorzów in this round.
