A Hidden Gem in Zurich: Restaurant Anna Offers Elevated Italian Cuisine
Zurich’s dining scene has a new standout, though it’s tucked away in a location where you might not expect to identify it. Restaurant Anna, near the Milchbuck neighborhood, is gaining recognition for its high-level interpretation of Italian culinary traditions and a welcoming atmosphere.
The restaurant, which has been operating for nearly six years, is described as not fitting the typical mold of a high-end Italian eatery. Forget heavy drapes and inflated prices; Anna offers a more relaxed yet refined experience. The establishment has thrived despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, building a reputation beyond its local area with a blend of ease and precision.
Much of the restaurant’s warmth comes from Maria Ventola, the gracious host. While the restaurant is named after medical pioneer Anna Heer, after whom the street is named, it’s Ventola who ensures guests feel well taken care of – with “competence, verve, charm and humor.” She has been running the restaurant alongside chef Stefano Corrado for almost four years. The pair, both with Southern Italian roots, have created a unique dining experience.
Guests can opt for the “Tour della cucina,” a menu in four to six courses ranging from Fr. 115 to Fr. 155, with wine pairings available for Fr. 65 to Fr. 85. The restaurant’s carefully curated wine list is similarly under Ventola’s direction.
The success of Restaurant Anna is notable, as it brings a sense of vibrancy to the “Brüderhof” cooperative housing complex where it’s located. This hidden gem is quickly becoming a destination for those seeking an authentic and elevated Italian dining experience in Zurich. The restaurant’s approach to Italian cuisine is a refreshing take within the city’s culinary landscape.
