Tag Ridings Secures PGA Tour Champions Playoff Spot with Strong Finish at Simmons Bank Championship

Little Rock, Ark. — Tag Ridings finished tied for second at the Simmons Bank Championship yesterday, securing a crucial spot in the top 36 of the Charles Schwab Cup standings and guaranteeing full-time status on the 2026 tour.

Ridings, a former University of Arkansas standout, entered the tournament at Pleasant Valley Country Club in 35th place, needing to maintain his position to qualify for the Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Phoenix. He finished at 13 under, seven strokes behind tournament champion Steven Alker, and moved to 22nd in the standings. This leap forward is particularly significant as the top 36 players compete for a substantial bonus pool and enhanced playing opportunities.

“This is unexpected to say the least,” Ridings said, reflecting on his journey this season. “Last fall didn’t make it through a Monday (qualifier). Starting out this spring, I got some great support from Rhino sponsors. (That) really kind of freed me up to feel comfortable chasing it.” Golf Channel analyst Paul Azinger also commented on Ridings’ performance, calling him a “legitimate professional” and a “powerful player.” Ridings previously achieved success on the Korn Ferry Tour, winning the 2002 Permian Basin Open and the 2020 TPC Colorado Championship.

The 51-year-old Ridings emphasized the pressure of competing against Hall of Famers but also highlighted the sportsmanlike atmosphere on the PGA Tour Champions. Securing his place in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship represents a major milestone in his career, especially after initially joining the tour with limited playing status. More information about the Charles Schwab Cup can be found at the official PGA Tour Champions website.

Ridings will now travel to Phoenix Country Club for the season-ending championship, arriving $196,500 richer and with full status secured for the 2026 season, according to tour officials.
