Actor Robert Karadīns, known for his roles in “Revenge of the Nerds” and “Lizzie McGuire,” has died by suicide, according to The Guardian.
The actor died at the age of 71. Robert Karadīns had been battling mental health issues for nearly 20 years.
The news of Karadīns’ passing was announced by his family. “With deep sorrow, we share the news of the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother Robert Karadīns. In a world that sometimes seems so dark, Bobijs was always a beacon of light to all around him. We grieve the loss of this beautiful soul. We honor Bobijs’ courageous battle with bipolar disorder, which lasted almost two decades. We hope his story will shed light on the stigma associated with mental illness. We ask for peace during this time as we embrace this irreversible loss. Thank you for your understanding and compassion,” the family statement read.
Karadīns’ older brother, Keith Karadīns, explained the family’s decision to openly discuss his mental health struggles. He stated that they hope to encourage greater support and assistance for those diagnosed with the illness.
“We want people to know about it, and there is no shame in it. I want to honor him for how he dealt with it and for his beautiful soul. Robert was incredibly talented, and we will miss him every day. We will be comforted by how funny, smart, and tolerant he was. He was my little brother,” Keith Karadīns said.
The actor’s brother, David Karadīns, died in 2009 at the age of 72 from asphyxiation in a hotel room in Thailand. This loss exacerbated the actor’s mental health condition, leading to a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. The news of Robert Karadīns’ death comes as the entertainment industry increasingly focuses on mental health awareness and support.
