False information and images are circulating online claiming to depict a funeral and tributes, but these appear to be fabrications created using artificial intelligence.

On Wednesday, September 25th, Amy Redford took to Instagram to debunk the misinformation surrounding a supposed memorial service for her father, who passed away on September 16th at the age of 89.

“Several versions of funerals, tributes, and quotes from my family have been created using AI that are false,” Redford wrote.

“The portrayals of my father, who clearly has no voice, and the portrayals of my family that do not represent anyone positively are even more difficult during this delicate time,” she continued. “We are grieving together and supporting each other.”

Addressing the AI-generated content specifically, she questioned, “Simply asking: what if it were you? Let this be a reference. Let human authenticity live, inspire, and be the connection we all crave.”

Redford also explained that the family has not yet held a public funeral, but is “planning a tribute.”

“Every family deserves the opportunity to experience grief, represent the person they lost, and honor them in a way that best suits their values and family culture.”

Amy Redford also expressed gratitude for the “love and support” fans have shown during this difficult time. “It’s evident he meant so much to many people, and my family is touched by the outpouring of stories and tributes from all corners of the globe.”
