Robin Bengtsson is aiming for his second Melodifestivalen win with his new country-inspired song, “Honey honey.” [[2]] The popular Swedish song competition serves as the nation’s qualifier for the Eurovision Song Contest, and this year’s event is already underway with heats across the country. [[1]] While Bengtsson prepares to take the stage, his partner, sigrid Bernson, is prioritizing family at home with their newborn daughter and son.
Robin Bengtsson is bringing a touch of country to the Swedish stage with his new song, “Honey honey,” as he competes in the Melodifestivalen. But while the singer is focused on his performance, his partner, Sigrid Bernson, is at home with their family.
The 2017 Melodifestivalen winner shared the reason for Bernson’s absence, and it’s a heartwarming one.
Robin Bengtsson previously backed Erik Segerstedt at Melodifestivalen last year.
Now, he’s taking center stage with “Honey honey,” a country-infused track hoping to capture the hearts of Swedish voters. Bengtsson has a supportive crew cheering him on, including his eldest son William, friends, and his sister and her family.
However, Bernson, who herself competed in Melodifestivalen in 2018 with “Patrick Swayze,” is watching from home. She’s caring for their newborn daughter, Vera, and son Viggo.
Vera is just over two weeks old and too young to attend the music competition. Bengtsson opened up about what it feels like to be away from his youngest child.
“It doesn’t feel great, of course, but she won’t remember it,” Bengtsson said. “And everything is going well at home. She just sleeps and eats, so it works.”
How does it feel in your heart as a dad to leave such a little one?
“We’re doing a lot of FaceTime,” he replied.
Bengtsson, who won Melodifestivalen in 2017 with “I can’t go on,” is now competing in Sweden’s biggest music competition for the fifth time. The Melodifestivalen is a national institution, launching the careers of many Swedish pop stars and serving as the country’s selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest.
